Seasick Steve

We saw Seasick Steve in Bristol on Friday night. His guitar only has 3 strings. He was supported by Simple Kid. It was very warm inside the Anson Rooms.....someone fainted and was carried out into the fresh air. Seasick Steve is out there...doing his own thing. Its "all good".

When we arrived it was chaos..... the place was packed and very noisy..... and they didnt have our booking. To make up for this they took us through to the VIP Lounge were there was a free table. This was nt as exciting as it sounds!!!! We decided we wouldnt eat there... and after the game finished we left swiftly and headed out to Rusholme for a currry. We then went back into Manchester .....Laura wanted to go to The Fab Cafe. We got home at 1.30.

It was the end of a very long day. We had lunch at Ros and Roys, and then went up to the cemetry in the afternoon. It was nice to be in Wigan on the anniversary of the accident. Auntie Angela rang from Australia on sunday and we agreed that its always a relief when that day is over.

We visited Crosby on Sunday... to see Another Place by Anthony Gormley. There are 100 life size figures spread out across the beach at Crosby. They are moulded on the artists own body and are made from solid cast iron. Some of the figures are clean and tidy...others are covered in barnacles and rust.... others are up to their chests in sand. If there is a very high tide, all the figures will be completely submerged.

We think the deer love our field. They love running around in a big open space. The stag is on the prowl at the moment....making loud grunting noises and chasing the females around. I wish I had a really good zoom lense.... I could get some great shots.

We went to a meeting at the village hall last night. They are looking for new ideas and new people to help out.... we sat on the front row and I nearly found myself as a new committee member. I asked the chairman if I could think about it. I dont like to rush into things!!! I would love to have a party at the village hall.... but cant think of an occasion at the moment. We have been to a few village meetings now... and when they ask "has anyone got any questions?"..... I always want to put my hand up and say "is anyone else having crow problems?"

We spent most of yesterday in the garden. We have neglected it recently... concentrating on our room with the new wood burner. We cut back some shrubs and nettles and had a general tidy around. It looks great out there at the moment...lots of oranges and yellows on the trees. We are thinking about cutting down one of the big trees ... its a christmas tree which we think must be 20 feet tall. When it has gone, we will get a much better view of the field... and the wildlife passing through.

"I am guessing I am a lot like you."

"I was 16 when you died, and you seemed so old. It is only now, today that I can understand that yours was a life only half lived and still with so much to come. When you died, I knew what I d lost, what a gaping hole there was in my life, and indeed still is. But I didnt see how it was for you. To me you inhabited that older world, and I somehow imagined that there was sufficient compensation in your achievements to allow you to leave this world. I am staggered to realise now, that there is so much of my life still in front of me. I am devastated at the thought that your life was cut short. You were young when you died, I understand that now."

Irish stuff.....

The ferry trip over to Ireland was like a bad dream. There were children howling and vomiting everywhere.... bottles and glasses flying around in the bar....the sound of smashing glass was very reassuring. Staff were offering us water and sick bags. It was definitely rough out there.
Overall, the charity shops in Ireland were a bit disappointing. We saw one called " Touched by Suicide" and in Cork there was a Vinnies ( St Vincent de Paul ) selling clothes donated by Michael Flatley ....including his Lord of the Dance jacket.
We did some extreme camping on the trip. High winds and heavy rain tested our tent to its limits. Our new sleeping bags performed well and kept us toasty.
The traditional live music was entertaining.... we went to Matt Molloys in Westport... a famous bar owned by one of the Chieftans. We watched Ireland lose to France in a pub in Galway.
Interesting places we visited included Cork, Sligo, Galway, Clifden, Listowel, Westport and the amazing Connemera region. There we visited Roundstone and found a man making and selling his own amazing pottery. I wanted to buy everything but had to make do with one small piece.
Dublin was very busy....we enjoyed the art galleries and shopping.
The ferry trip home was a lot calmer.... travelling through the night we got into our own bed at 3.45 am.
