Noel Fielding on Art

"Video technology confirms England are very bad at football"

A piece written by thedailymash.co.uk

"England are heading home from the World Cup after state of the art video technology showed the ball crossing their goal line many, many times.
The use of television has been a source of controversy in the sport, but experts insist it offers a fool proof method for determining whether a team is good at football or whether it is simply a collection of absurdly overpaid, second rate commercial brands with ghastly wives, locked in a sado masochistic relationship with a cretinous media that merely reflects a society that has taken its natural intelligence, its sense of perspective and values and violently drowned them all in a bucket of **** "

Oh dear.
As Naboo would say... we need to look at a photo of some kittens to calm us down.

Beckham or Beckett?

So...this is how it went....
At the village fete, there was a second hand book stall.
Olivia and Graeme had asked the man on the stall if he had any books by Samuel Beckett... he said no and then we wandered around, sat down to have some sandwiches and throw a wet sponge at a young child in the stocks. Tel won a coconut at the shy.
Later we walked back round to the same book stall...were the man said to Olivia...."whats all this about Beckett then?"
Olivia said..."he s just hot and we like to watch him sleeping"
The man looked confused.
Olivia was day dreaming about David Beckham...and the Sam Taylor Wood video of him sleeping.
We shuffled away laughing. The man on the stall was laughing too.
I love Olivia.x

Olivia Graeme and Mia arrived on Friday night. They had been on the Isle of Man following the TT races. They stayed with us for 5 days, the weather was beautiful and they were able to relax and watch english speaking tv. They said that being here (when the weather is hot and sunny) reminds them of Mullumbimby.
On Saturday we walked up to the next village for the village fete.... as we arrived the brass band were playing. There was a little dog show, some classic cars, skittles but sadly no meringues!!! We walked back, had some food and lit the fire basket in the garden.
On Sunday we built a dead hedge in the field just infront of the summerhouse. It turned out really well and it was fun being up there. Mia collected a whole tub of grass seeds.... including bugs.
On Monday Tel left early for his flight to San Francisco for a work meeting and I went off to work too. When I got home Graeme was cutting some potatoes when he knocked a bottle of olive oil off the table...it smashed on the floor and he stood on a big piece of glass and cut his foot. Olivia took over and made a lovely meal of steak and potatoes. We watched Big Brother. Graeme has picked out the one with the monobrow as his winner.
On Tuesday I met them in town and we had fish and chips. We took in the views on the way home and finished the day with some vintage first series Mighty Boosh. Brilliant.
I took them to the airport on Wed for their flight back to Berlin. We listened to the England game on the radio on the way. Mia had her England cap on.... hope she doesnt get into trouble wearing it in Berlin.... especially if England beat Germany on Sunday.

It was lovely having them here again. We talked about Australia and our recent trip there.... how Olivia and I feel about the place and the people.... and it was good to share our thoughts. x
We look forward to visiting them In Berlin soon. x x

Dramarama

Last night Tel and our neighbour John had to rescue a tiny baby deer that was stuck in the fencing in our field. Tel had to hold the deer while John used his wire cutters to cut the fencing. Tel said the deer was only just a bit bigger than Wilson... it must have only been a few days old. It was uninjured and ran off into the woods to look for its mum.

I finally started my painting yesterday.... Its based on the beautiful gum/eucalyptus trees we saw as we drove around Australia in Feb. I have wanted to do a painting relating to Australia and all the memories from the past 20 years. For some reason these amazing trees seem just right, as a strong and positive image. It felt great to put aside nearly the whole day to concentrate on the painting.... and I am really happy with it so far.
Its been a good weekend too, as I picked up my "new" car on Friday night. We bought it from a lovely local family. It is nine years old... has a fan and heater that works!!!...and a CD player. It feels like super luxury after my old citroen and I am going to try and keep it clean and tidy...I promise.
The floor joists arrived aswell and today we fitted one in place using a joist hanger. Tel has got a day off work tomorrow so we are hoping to get the other 4 into place. We went to a reclamation yard this morning to look at windows and doors.... that sounds like it could be tricky?

Weekend

We spent most of Saturday in the garden... mowing at the front and back.... and sorting out the veg patch. Tel did a bit of work on the summerhouse, using dowel and some groovy green bolts to hold the supports in place. The next wood order arrives this week.
On Sunday we went out for a walk and stopped at a pub.

Citroen Dyane Estate

Citroen Dyane Estate

At Hay we saw a DS driving about... memories of Geoffs beautiful car that drove us to and from our wedding, came flooding back. How lovely would it be to have a classic citroen to drive about in. There are no other cars like them on the road. A real blast from the past ... when cars were interesting and came in great shapes. And had lots of style.

Quack Quack

Wilson seemed to go into overdrive with his howling at the weekend.... frightening Roy to death by creeping up on him at 4 am and howling in his ear. The crows were banging on the windows and tapdancing on the roof.... and Roger was making lots of duck noises. We are all on medication now!!!!

We had a lovely day out in Hay on Wye on Sunday. It was an early start and a lovely drive through the countryside up to Hay. We looked around the town first, had some lunch and then walked down to the Literary Festival site, just out of town.
It was warm and sunny and Hay looked beautiful.
There was lots of bunting, music .. and of course lots of books in lots of bookshops.
We saw famous faces including Sir Robert Winston, Jon Snow and Kate Humble...and there was a lovely atmosphere.
