Complicated grief
I remember sitting in my bedroom in April 1989, watching the FA Cup semi final at Hillsborough. Later in the evening I remember watching the news reports from Liverpool Lime Street station as hundreds of relatives gathered, hoping to see their husband or child getting off the trains arriving from Sheffield. It was so shocking and so sad .... and it is still shocking and sad today.
When Liverpool fans gathered to sing You ll Never Walk Alone this week.... it felt as if Hillsborough was only yesterday.. and we were suddenly taken back 20 years.
Five years, 10 years or 20 years....the shock and sadness of losing someone is always there...and a part of us will always wonder why it had to happen and what life would be like if they were still with us. You could feel the sadness and the grief in Liverpool this week.
