Talk may be messy and old fashioned but......

" We are becoming so used to connection...accelerated, superficial and brief... That encountering arguments or states of feeling which are complicated, as life tends to be, can be a shock to the system. In online life you like or you don't and then you move on. That approach infects real life. Feelings that are tricky to express lose out to the online equivalent....thumbs up or thumbs down. Because conversation provides real emotion and thought...it needs to be protected. Any serious meeting should start with a request to turn off all mobile phones. Real conversation is important for our sanity and our happiness. An excess of online chat will make us lonelier, less kind to one another and more self obsessed. The best of human thought and feeling risks getting lost in the roaring silence of online connection."

Great Big Sea - Seagulls

"Shes got seagulls in her eyes....."
....our favourite folk song from Scilly x

Swimming

My participant and I have been taking part in an Over 50s swimming group for the last three weeks at the local pool. MY participant is a really good swimmer.... Me not so much but we ve both been enjoying it. When we got there today there was a bit of a problem.... Someone in the group had complained to the manager that I was nt over 50 and they didn't think I should be allowed to take part. Even though I explained I am supporting my participant (aged 77)they said I could go in today but I wouldn't be able to carry on in the group. We were both a bit surprised by this....and have decided to move our swimming to the earlier open swimming session... Hopefully it will be a bit more relaxed?

Treacle steamed pudding

Ros, Roy and Roger have been here for the weekend and we had a lovely time with lots of laughter.
My treacle steamed pudding (a first attempt from my Delia book) was a great success.... and tasted extra yummy with thick smooth custard by Tel.
We went out for a meal on Saturday night and yesterday we were out for most of the day walking high and low by the river.
Tel unveiled the new road sign...it is pretty spectacular and will look great when we eventually get it into position at the end of the road.
Roger brought with him a song he had written called The Very Noisy Night Song, we ran out of oil and Wilson behaved himself . x

Oh the beautiful islands of Scilly

We had a lovely Easter holiday on the Isles of Scilly. We stayed on St Marys in a lovely guesthouse. We visited the nearby island of Tresco for the day....and the Botanical Gardens there. We hired bikes and cycled around... took lots of photos and Instagrams... sang along at the Folk Club night in the Old Town... visited ancient monuments and white sand beaches. The travelling on either side of the holiday was a bit epic...but definitely worth the effort. We shall return to Scilly.

On my way to work today I looked over into a field and saw 2 camels grazing.... the circus is in town. There is a small big top and flashing lights.
When I got home from work there was a small group of deer in the garden munching at the wet grass.
