Guttering

We spent this afternoon working on the summerhouse. Tel has bought some guttering to put along the back.... and a down pipe to direct any rain away down the hill. It was really cold up there and we couldnt get a fire going.... shiver.
I like the above photo.... slighty squashed and with an antique tint dont you know?

I supported my participant at a local craft fayre yesterday. It was a lot of fun, we met lots of nice people and we received free soup, tea and coffee as we were stall holders.
When I got home I found our neighbours running around in the road trying to catch a lost chicken . They handed it to me and I carried it under my arm back to its owners.

Decoupage

Decoupage is derived from the French word decouper...meaning to cut out. It is the creative art of assembling, pasting and varnishing paper cut outs for decorating objects. The decoupage artist is limited only by his or her imagination.

Tacita Dean at Tate Modern

We had a lovely weekend in London... staying with Dave and Jo and meeting up with Declan.
On Saturday we had some food at a local market then went over to Tate Modern. On the way we visited Occupy London at St Pauls Cathedral and saw the Lord Mayors Show pass by. We queued for tickets to see Gerhard Richters Panorama and then queued again to get into the exhibition. We met Dave and Jo later for some food.
Yesterday we looked around the Columbia Road flower market...and then headed over to Brick lane/ Spittalfields to meet Declan for lunch. We quickly popped into Somerset House then headed off to catch our train home.
It was a weekend of busy places/ hot chocolate/ Jones the cat/ surprise announcements/ shingles/ Graham Norton and old friends. It was noted that you cant do hugs on Facebook.... x

"Spontaneous society/Poem Forest"

"We begin to recognize each situation as happening once and one time only in time's vast history. If we re going to form a perception of our current surroundings and stop longing to be elsewhere, if we re going to reach out to someone and create a smile or conversation that otherwise wouldnt exist, this must happen now."

One of my participants is crocheting the most amazing blankets at the moment.... she uses bright pinks against a black background...she would like to sell them at a craft fair or market... we are trying to work out how much they are worth?
I found this beautiful blanket on line.

We went out to the local Rotary Club Bonfire and Fireworks display on Saturday night down by the river. There were a lot of people there..... the fireworks were great. We were looking at them through the heat haze from the fire and the lights and colours seemed distorted and blurred.... it looked really good.

The Sir Alex Ferguson Stand.

"The beauty of Saturdays presentation was seeing the expression on Fergusons face, the look of utter surprise, the way he stooped forward a little and blew out his cheeks. Heck for a few seconds he even stopped chewing his gum."

Cruising furniture

We had some training this morning on the "Fear of Falling". We work with a lot of elderly people who have fallen or are worried about falling. "Cruising furniture" is when a person moves around the room holding onto different pieces of furniture. It was interesting thinking about why a person would fall.... a change in medication, hearing and balance problems, faulty equipment (walking sticks), steep steps or stairs, bad lighting and clutter in the home. Recovering from a fall can be a long and painful process.
