A pyjama drama
The report from Cardiff on Five Live yesterday made me laugh so much.
It was the story of a Tescos store that has put a notice in the window, kindly asking its shoppers to be "appropriately dressed when visiting the store... footwear must be worn at all times and no nightwear is permitted"
They were interviewing local people....some thought it was "disgusting" that people are shopping in their pyjamas..... others couldnt see what all the fuss was about. One lady said she would go in in her pyjamas for a packet of cigarettes.... but if she was doing a big shop she would get dressed.

Smiles in the snow
I picked up my SLR photos today from Boots. They are mostly from Christmas when Olivia Graeme and Mia were here.
I think its always worth taking some shots on film... especially if its a special occasion....ie: if Australian family are here and it has snowed ... thats pretty special x

Trees 1
On our walk today we saw some amazing trees. You can really see them at this time of year.... how big and old they are. How lucky we are to have woods to walk through and trees to look up at.

Shake your shoes.
Killer funnel web spiders invade Sydney.
"Unlike most spiders, which scuttle away when disturbed, funnel webs which can grow upto to 2 inches long, may rear up and bare their fangs. The Australian Reptile Park has been busy with .people bringing in captured specimens."
Crikey.

Wombling.
I went to Tescos today to do a "big shop"....and to collect some club card points that Tel didnt claim when he shopped there before Christmas. The lady at the customer service desk said she couldnt give me the points as the receipt was over 14 days old...and they had new rules in place now due to "wombling".
"Wombling" is when people pick up receipts from trolleys or bins around the store, and claim the clubcard points for themselves.
Oh dear.

Lanterns
On Christmas Day we went out onto the track.... lit our sky lanterns.... and let them go into the sky.
We wrote messages on them and watched as they floated away.
The instructions said.... "when it is ready to fly, the lantern will want to pull out of your hands." x

Late night drama
My Dad would have loved it. The midnight finish to the Masters Snooker from Wembley Arena last night.
Mark Selby beat Ronnie in a final frame decider.
There is now the walk on to music...a cross between boxing and darts.
There is the plant, the canon, the safety and the in off.
I love the way the players are thinking 3 or 4 shots ahead.
Snooker is great.

Hill
We had a lot more snow overnight and today..... Tels car is still on the drive!!!!
At the moment he is using a pool car from work. Tomorrow he will have to come home on the train ... and hopefully a big effort over the weekend will see him moving his car.
I felt as if I was in training today for the winter olympics cross country event.... I had to leave my car on the main road and carry shopping for 20 mins on foot down a windy country lane to my participants house. He hasnt been out for over a week ...... he is keeping warm but is a bit bored. At least now he has some crumpets, bacon and faggots to keep him going.

Snowy walk
Day 6 and Tels car is still sat on the drive.
The dig and shovel was abandoned early yesterday when it became obvious that it would be too difficult to make the road safe for cars.
Today we went for a lovely walk in the woods to cheer ourselves up. It was a real winter wonderland up there.
When we got back our neighbour offered us some snow chains to fix onto the car wheels... but they were too small to use. We heard that there will be a delivery of grit tomorrow...and it definitely feels warmer now.... hopefully the road will begin to thaw.

"Ice flow ....nowhere to go"
Its The Tundra Rap.
Things are a bit tricky up here at the moment. Its very, very cold and very, very quiet. No one has driven up or down our road for 3 days now.... and on the main road it is very quiet too. An action plan is being formed to get our neighbours together, to start chipping away at the ice and snow so people can get to work etc. They said this is the worst they have seen it in 20 years. Luckily we have electricity, TV, woodburner.... and lots of tea bags. Unluckily we have had to cancel our trip to Manchester tomorrow to see Laura (present will be in the post on monday hopefully)..... as it isnt safe to drive Tels car down the hill.
Wilson has got his legs crossed... he doesnt like going out in the snow!!!!!

Cool dude
Our neighbours and their little boy put a lot of effort into building this enormous snowman today. How can a couple of leaves and a twig make such a lovely face.

Fire
We spent most of the weekend cutting back shrubs, pulling up dead ferns, raking up leaves and fixing fencing. We had a fire on the track..... burning our christmas tree and lots of cuttings and old posts.

A magical photograph
We took a lot of photographs when Olivia Graeme and Mia were here....but this one stands out as a favourite.
Tel took it one night. It is Olivia, Mia and I, holding hands.... running about in the snow. It is a very moving image.
As well as being a talented artist, great Mum and all round lovely Aussie...Olivia is also a wedding photographer. We talked about how you can set up a hundred shots trying to capture a special moment and then one blurred photo comes along, and really makes an impact. My idea for wedding photography is to take it back to the old days...just use 2 or 3 rolls of real film and take a cine camera along too. After seeing this photograph I would go even further and offer a "blurred" service.
This photograph is so lovely.x

Luffenham
The feeling you get when the pubs arent open for another forty five minutes and the luffness is beginning to wear a bit thin.
