The new boards

The new boards

It was literally "breaking news" last weekend when Rogers car went into the car pit.... so we bought some new boards yesterday and put them in place this morning. Here is Tel jumping up and down on them ..... all in the name of Health and Safety (and fun).

Today the weather was ok and we were able to go into the garden and do a bit of tidying up. Its a mad rush to get jobs done at this time of year...before the light fades and it starts raining again.
We managed to turn over the veg patch, rake up some leaves, fix some guttering and Tel put the fencing back up with the help of our neighbour and friend. We also fed the birds.... and I saw a small hawk fly past as I was digging in the veg patch. It was absolutely silent as it went past.... it was the scattering wood pigeons that gave it away.

Roger came to stay for the first time at the weekend. He drove us back here on Friday....and stayed with us for 3 nights. Ros and Roy came too and we had a lovely time (despite the terrible weather!)
On Saturday we were rearranging the cars on the drive..... Tel pulled off the drive and Roger drove on.... unfortunately he drove onto the car pit and a board gave way. Rogers car was stuck....pointing down into the pit. We called on our neighbour to help.... John is an engineer and introduced us to "jacking and stacking" as a way to raise the car up and get it out of the hole. Luckily the car wasnt damaged and Roger was ok. We headed off to Hereford for the afternoon and then in the evening we went out to The Bell for a meal.
We drove to Cardiff on Sunday.... and I made a roast dinner when we got back.
It was lovely to have them all here for a few days.
I looked through the Memory Book with Ros and Roger and we talked about my Mum and Dad. It was nice to talk about things that I have to put to one side for most of the time. They were very kind and listened to me. x

On Thursday, I caught the train up to Wigan ...and in the evening I went to St Francis with Ros, Roy and Roger, for the church service celebrating 20 years of the Mothers Union. The Mothers Union banner is dedicated to my Mum Dad and Martin... and it was a very moving moment for me when it was carried into church at the start of the service. I sat next to Auntie Irene during the service....it was lovely to see her there. After tea and cakes in the hall, we went back in to take a couple of photos with the banner. It was a lovely occasion and I was glad to be there.

If you can find the time.... Be kind to yourself x

Air fresheners

I was shopping in Tescos with a participant on Thusrday, when I spotted a can of air freshener reduced to 74p. It was the fragrance that I was interested in..... "Glistening Snow"
I bought the can and we tried it out when we got home.... its a sort of orangey , cinnamon, piney smell!!!!!
We came up with the idea of " Thunder and Lightening" as another possible fragrance?

Confusing Rugby.....League or Union?

There were too many games to keep up with on Saturday.
In Rugby League we had France v Australia and England V New zealand... and in Rugby Union we had England v Australia and Wales v New zealand.
Its always great to watch Wales at the Millenium Stadium..... the singing of the national anthem brings a tear to the eye.
At one point I m sure the commentator said...."Jones to Jones to Jones"..... I love the Welsh.

"We are gathered here"

"Everyone you have ever known will die. And so will you.
And yet we dance in the looming shadows of mortality, we dance and we talk and we eat and we argue. We read books. We care for people. We buy houses. We plant trees and we start to drive and we learn how to make milk frothy. Because something, somewhere in the middle of it all has to matter. As our seconds and minutes and days slip by, something has to be important. And who are we to giggle and point and sneer at what others have found to care about? Who is to say what is beneath us, what is not worthy of our hearts?
Everybody needs something to hold when it gets dark, so who am I, who are any of us to point at anything and call it facile or redundant or stupid or rubbish?
Even when it quite clearly is."

Daniel Kitson was looking slimmer and had shorter hair when we saw him in Bristol on Sunday night.
The central figure of his performance was his Auntie Angela who died at the beginning of the year.
He perfectly put across how the death of someone we love makes us reflect on their lives and our lives... and how we must make the most of our time together.

We drove to Cardiff in our fancy dress....at the party there was apple bobbing, pumpkin soup, trick or treating and a toilet roll game. Rhosyn was a little witch, Cathy a gypsy and Graham had a very scary mask on and lots of chest hair on show.
It was lots of fun and we all enjoyed it.
The Rileys left at 7am yesterday in the wind and rain....they had a ferry to catch back to the Isle of Man.x
Mark and the kids went back to Nottingham later.x
