Busy day in Bristol

Busy day in Bristol

I enjoyed my day in the "big city" yesterday.....shopping, looking out for The Boosh, and meeting Sophie and Teo for lunch.
I managed to spill my coffee everywhere in a small greek deli.....before I had even taken one sip. The owner was very kind, helped me to clear up the mess and made me another coffee.
The Mighty Boosh have been at The Hippodrome all week, so I was looking out for them in second hand clothes shops....no sign though!!!
Sophie and Teo are doing really well. We met for lunch and then Sophie invited us for tea later.....it was nice to see them all.
Cabot Circus is quite impressive.... but has left a lot of big buildings empty around the town...as shops have relocated. The restaurants were interesting..... Brasserie Blanc....and Carluccios looked good.
Bristol is big and busy.... it was nice to get home last night to our quiet part of the world.

A special tree.

A special tree.

Trees are wonderful things.
They give us shade.
They add beauty and peace to our lives.
They can help us remember a happy or sad event.
Trees are a symbol of life and growth.
When we plant a tree in memory of somebody, we know that memory will live on. It will always remind us of that person.

It is the right time of year for us to plant a tree in our garden. x

This week I....

... bought some hair dye and eye cream.....oh dear!!
... cried most of the way through Sunshine with Steve Coogan.
.... acquired a funky wooden chair that was about to go into a skip.
... made plans for my week off work.
... sorted out the paperwork in our box of bills/receipts and important stuff.
But the most interesting thing I did this week, was to go to a talk on "Understanding Mental Illness". It was brilliantly presented by a senior manager from MIND. We were asked to write down words that we might associate with mental illness... words that came up included ... misunderstood, overwhelming, sad, moodswings, lonely, paranoid, inability to deal with everyday life, obsessions, ups and downs, perfectionism, anxiety. It was pointed out to us that we all suffer from these feelings at some point in our lives ( for some of us it can be daily )....and that mental illness can be a collection of these symptons. I made lots of notes...."sadness is a part of life".... depression can arise without warning, or we can react to a loss or disappointment to a specific event.... is PMS a mental illness (this caused much laughter in the group) ... modern society doesnt help, "I want and I deserve". We all went away with a lot to think about.

Catching up.

Charlotte came to stay on Friday.... I had a headache when she arrived, so we ditched the idea of a bike ride and went out for a walk instead. The weather was amazing. We had some food and put the woodburner on..... I introduced Charlotte to the joys of a Mighty Boosh episode on DVD.... not sure that she loved it as much as I do. Yesterday we went out to Symonds Yat and then she headed home. It was good to catch up on everything....she is applying for a new job and we wish her well in part 2 of the interview next week. "See you soon."
