I m always on the look out for an interesting pair of socks....and some nice retro buttons.

A winters day in May.

We had planned to have a BBQ yesterday....with Cathy Graham and The Rhos. Instead we got the woodburner going, put the lights on and had a meal inside. When the rain stopped......we walked down to the pub for a quick drink. Rhosyn was very entertaining... and made friends with a little girl in the pub. We made the most of the terrible bank holiday weather... and had a lovely afternoon.

We were Godparents to Matthew on Sunday, at his Christening service at St Thomas in Up Holland. Roger took the service. We were asked to mark the sign of the cross on Matthews forehead.
"I sign you with the cross, the sign of Christ. Lift your face to the light. You are beautiful in the sight of God. The mark of Christ is upon you. Walk free and open your heart to life, for Christ walks with you into a new day."
Following the service we went back to Mike and Catherines house for a BBQ. Ros made a beautiful christening cake.... and Roy was in charge of liquid refreshments from the shed. I made a sock monkey for Matthew.... I hope it will keep him company over the years.

Cup Final.

"When Sir Bobby Robson, the guest of honour, entangled his feet in the red carpet, you wanted some of this Cup final to belong to him. You wanted it for the old ailing football man as much as the managers, the players and the fans of Portsmouth and Cardiff, who came out of the past like sentinels of the warmest of the games history. This was certainly a final that lived more engagingly than last years collision of power and wealth between Chelsea and Man Utd. It was stripped of the worst cynicism and caution of modern football almost from the first whistle, and much of the credit had to go to beaten long shots Cardiff. On saturday the clock rolled back and football went back to its roots." James Lawton.

Extreme gardening!!!!
We ve been in the garden all day today..... planting, weeding, mowing. Our border is coming along well.... some of the shrubs have now been in there for 2 years and are starting to spread out a bit. We dug up a bamboo that hasnt grown an inch in two years... and have put it in a pot on the front step, to see if it will spring into life.
Gardening on the side of a hill is hard work.

Inner Wheel.

The Rotary Club was formed in Chicago in 1905.The wives of the Rotarians in this country who had assissted the men during World War 1 had become known as Rotary Ladies. The Rotary club in Manchester then came up with the name Inner Wheel. The emblem is a small wheel contained within the larger Rotary Wheel.

Mark came to stay with us on Saturday.... and it was lovely to see him. He had been down to Newport in the morning to revisit the subway at the train station. He is hoping to put a piece of work in there....but at the moment its a bit grim...smelly and dark. Tel showed Mark some old slides from Newport and the degree show.....the usk column, the ghost wall, and the fluorescent tube piece.
We walked over to The Ostrich for tea....and opted for the bar menu and not the a la carte!!! Mark wore the head torch on the way back and we made a fire at the top of the field. Hopefully in the summer he will come again with Lou and the kids and we can try camping up there. Sounds like fun.
Unfortunately Marks car broke down near Newport on his way there and also on his way home on Sunday. But he made it back to Nottingham safely.

A good fire.

On Saturday we went to see Dave and stayed over with him in Bath. We went out for a few drinks and then had a curry. He and Tel played Grand Theft Auto 4 in the morning. Daves cat was sick!!!!
