We started the week on The Isle of Man, visiting Jim and Lisa, Iwan and Luke.....and we finished the week in Salcombe, Devon, as a little birthday treat. Its been nice to get away for a bit.....and great to have a week off work. Wilson is glad to see us.... I think he thought we'd gone for good!!!!

We had a great time on the Isle of Man. The weather was amazing...and we did lots of outdoor stuff. It was good to see The Rileys in their new house. The new house has a great 70s kitchen, a lift to the downstairs bit and views over the coastline. We took about one million photos while we were there.... and we had a lot of fun with a capital F ... and a lot of laughs too ( especially during the Casino Royale "cheese and biscuits interval") I can say no more about that!!!!!!

On Wednesday we drove down to Salcombe in Devon for a couple of nights. Tel had booked us into the Tides Reach Hotel in South Sands. The hotel was right on the beach. We took a photo to celebrate the big 36. It was a lovely thing to do on my birthday.x

Roy came to stay at the weekend. I picked him up from the train station in Abergavenny on Friday. He had a fright on the way down, when a strange women got off the train at Leomster with his case.... he had to chase her down the platform and get it back...while the guard held the train up!!!!!
It was lovely having Roy here.....he did lots of things to help us...like fitting a plug socket in the dining room downstairs....giving us advice on which plants to buy at the garden centre......and helping us with the veg patch. On Sunday night we went to The Bell at Skenfrith for a lovely meal (celebrating the win for Wales over England!!!!)....now we have discovered a great place to eat out on special occasions.
I wished Ros a Happy Mothers Day over the phone. I am very lucky to have Ros and Roy as my family.x

Moments.

"Your defining moments may include episodes of trauma or tragedy; maybe they are instances of victory or perseverance. The point is that no matter who you are or how routine your life may have become, you will find that against this backdrop of routineness are certain moments in time that stand out in sharp relief and are crystal clear in your memory. It is those few moments, a surprisingly small number, that may well have shaped the entire rest of your life."

James Yorkston Live.

Last night we went to the Thekla Social in Bristol, to see James Yorkston (without The Athletes). Before his show, we watched Angus and Julia Stone playing upstairs. This was an unexpected bonus...they were really good.
There was a subdued atmosphere while James Yorkston was on....when we saw him on the Folky Dokey stage at The Green Man the atmosphere was electric. A wet sunday night on Bristol Docks ? He was very good ....a lovely person, funny quips and beautiful, gentle songs. There is something wonderful about him.

Summer Song.

"If I promise to settle down
With you forever by my side
Will you keep the peace?
Lord knows I have tried

I live for your kind words,
Oh the cruel words I have heard
I live for your quiet embrace
We have years left to waste

The more time I spend alone, the happier I am
I placed my trust in a fool, Lord will I ever learn

The summer it is near, its time to leave all that behind
And I ll not say a word, we do the best we can."
