I have been quite distracted this week...thinking about the anniversary of the accident...and things that will be going on in Australia this week. When I last spoke to Auntie Angela, she was planning to be in Grafton tomorrow on her way home from a holiday in Queensland with Olivia, Graeme and Miabella. They were going to meet Toni and Merv there and place a large rock by the side of the road where the accident happened. Merv has wanted to do this for many years and has finally got permission to do it this year. The rock will be taken from Toni and Mervs farm. I wish I could be there with them...I can imagine them all standing together by the roadside. I wish them all a safe visit to Grafton....and my thoughts are with them as another anniversary passes by. x

Gardening .... gloves needed.

Loppers arm

We spent most of yesterday in the front garden....cutting back the shrubs and plants that hang over into the road...and mowing the lawn..a general tidy up. We decided to get the extendable loppers out to tackle the big fir tree in the corner....and borrowed a ladder/platform contraption from Chris next door, so that we could reach the top bits. We put a lot of time and effort in. As we relaxed later...we both came out in a blotchy rash on our arms. When we went to the recycling place today...with half a tree in the back of the citroen....the nice man said...."I hate this stuff it always gives me a rash". My arms are really aching too....from using the loppers. Oh the joy of gardening!!!

We went up to the top of the field this afternoon...and Tel came face to face with a big stag. The stag has been around every morning for the past week...at 7 am he stands there grunting and howling, trying to impress the ladies.

Wedding ring.

I went into a jewellers in Chepstow today...to see how much it would cost to have my wedding ring made bigger. I thought it would be really expensive but she said it would cost around £35...which didnt sound too bad.
Since my finger operation back in January... I havent been able to wear my wedding ring. The operation left some scar tissue and I just cant get my ring past it...I dont want to force it....so the only thing to do is get it made bigger.
Because it was my Mums wedding ring too...I feel a bit sad about having it altered. But I ve really missed wearing it...and I know she wouldnt mind. It will be good to wear it again.

David Hockney.

" David Hockney and one of his most consistent models Celia Birtwell were reunited in front of his most famous painting ...to mark the opening of the first major survey of his portraits. Mr and Mrs Clark and Percy features Birtwell and her then husband Ossie Clark and a cat called Blanche (Hockney preferred the name Percy) as an embodiment of swinging London. The work was the only one by a living artist to be named in a poll of the nations favourite paintings last year."

Kiki Dee

We did a ten mile bike ride to Symmonds Yat yesterday....following the River Wye. I like cycle tracks that follow rivers...as they are mostly flat.
When we got there...we had a cup of tea in a cafe. In the pub next door I spotted Kiki Dee...she still has the red hair. Un fortunately she wasnt with Elton John...now that would have been exciting.

Funny man

Jeff Green the comedian....."who says women are the weaker sex....try pulling the duvet away from them at 4 in the morning"
I remember hearing his stand up, about how his girlfriend likes to have the heating on in the house...at full blast of course. Hes a funny man.

Autumnwatch.

We are having our very own Autumnwatch here in the field. The squirrels are burying their food....the leaves are falling....and its misty, wet and windy.
Bill and Kate have red deer on the Island of Rum...and we have lots of fallow deer passing through our field at the moment. Tel saw a big group running around in the field yesterday....and then he spotted a stag at the top watching them all. It really is fantastic to see all this wildlife in your own backyard...whether its a wonderful deer, a small robin or a noisy woodpecker....it always makes you smile.
The BBC s excellent Autumnwatch is being filmed at Martin Mere. We went there on a school trip when I was small....at the time I didnt realize what a great place it was.
Bill Oddie's piece about catching moths on last nights programme.........brilliant.

Kerput.

My little digital camera ...... the one that I use ALL THE TIME .... the one that has taken HUNDREDS OF PHOTOS .... has finally given up the ghost....and works no more.
Its been a bit dodgy for a while now....but was still taking pretty nice photos. Now it has said "enough is enough."
I ve still got my lovely old SLR but we will have to replace the digi.....I feel a bit lost without it!!!!!

This photo of Tel on the sit on mower was one of the last photos I took, before the camera made a funny noise and stopped working!
