"Tapestry" Carole King
"My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hues
An everlasting vision of the ever changing view
A wondrous woven magic in bits of blue and gold
A tapestry to feel and see....impossible to hold."

Cobwebs.
It feels as if our house is at the centre of a massive spiders web. When you go through the back door your face is covered by cobwebs. When you walk around in the garden you can see them everywhere.....in the trees and along the hedges. The spiders dont seem to be around much though........they must do all their spinning at night?

Hammock
I didnt have to work today...so I went into Monmouth to have a look in the Charity shops. It was quite a successful trip. I came home with a hammock (£5)....a dress for the christening (£4)...and Mr Owl (£1).
Our friends Sophie and Mauri say that if you see an owl it will bring you good luck.

Grape juice.....yum yum!!!!
Using a variety of bowls, buckets, bags ...and a sieve....Tel tried to make some grape juice last night. Food hygiene rules and regulations went out of the window....mashing grapes on the kitchen floor....nice!!!!
He made a sugar syrup to mix into the grape juice...but it all tastes a bit too "earthy" to me. We might freeze some and put it into a punch at a later date....or get it out at Christmas as a little treat for our visitors.

Relief at the JJB.
After lots of nailbiting in recent weeks....Wigan ended the Super League season on a high with victory against Hull on Friday night. For many weeks they were staring relegation in the chops....but thanks to the arrival of Brian Noble and a new found team spirit they hung on to their Super League place. Next season can only be an improvement.
In the old days.....(thats most of the 1990's)...Wigan were almost unbeatable.....true giants of the game. They would go away to Bradford on a misty wednesday night and beat them by 50 or 60 points. Above is a photo that Julie took at the end of another trophy winning season. The players and John are stood outside a restaurant in Standish, with the Challenge Cup and the Championship trophy.
Ros has a dream that next August, Wigan will be there as the first winners of the Challenge Cup at the new Wembley stadium.

Food Festival
We spent yesterday at the 8th Abergavenny Food Festival. It seemed to have grown a lot since last year...and it was very busy. The Cheese and Wine area was heaving.....you could hardly get near the stalls. The best area was around the castle....it was relatively peaceful. Here we found lots of "food art" that had been put together by children...I thought this was wonderful...(see above). We bought some jam, some olives and some strange veggie scotch eggs.

Cheeky.
With our funky flares and strange jumpers.....I think we were on a ferry to the Isle of Man.

Glorious.
These last few days have been really beautiful....the weather has been so lovely.
I think September is the best month of the year.... the light is bright but hazy.
Its been warm but not uncomfortable.
I do love this time of year.

Old bridge.
The Old Severn Bridge is 40 years old today. It is by far the more beautiful and exciting of the two bridges that carry people in and out of Wales. It has that simple 60s style. When you drive over it...it is like being on a roller coaster. And when it is windy you really have to concentrate.

Remembering...
Sometimes I think I am way too nostalgic. I spend a lot of time remembering past events...looking through old photos....thinking about people who are no longer around...and times that have passed by.
So its great when I realise that I am not alone.
Catching up with Declan....it has been great to hear him talking about our days at tec in such detail and with such fondness. It really is lovely to reminisce...and to remember what we did back in the "old days."
And my Auntie Joan sent me some old photos in the post last week....pictures of my Mums surprise 40th birthday party...and a lovely photo from our holidays in Angelsey in 1979.
It seems nice and comfortable to sink back into the past....and to remember the good (and the not so good) times.
I am really enjoying the present...looking forward to the future...but I am also more than happy to hold onto my memories from the past.

Cat flap.
Wilson now has his own door to the outside world. We put a cat flap in a couple of weeks ago. He's an old hand at cat flaps...no problems. Fitting it proved to be traumatic though. Lets just say it was a rushed job...and there is now lots of sticky tape around it, making sure it doesnt come away from the door every time Wilson uses it.
So far he hasnt brought anything in....there are lots of dead birds and mice outside the back door....but thankfully none in the house.
